What Major Trends Are We Based On?

In one of her latest books, Clicking, Faith Popcorn, Founder and President of BrainReserve, one of the world’s foremost marketing and trend research firms lists 10 major trends that will be influencing businesses over the next 10 – 20 years.

Being on trend with even one of these major trends is enough to make a business concept viable.  The Parmasters Golf Training Center concept is fully on trend with several of the trends she lists and marginally on trend with several more.

These seven are:

  1. Egonomics
  2. Cashing Out
  3. Down-Aging
  4. Vigilante Consumer
  5. Fantasy Adventure
  6. Small Indulgences
  7. Being Alive

1. Egonomics

Faith Popcorn refers to this trend as “Egonomics”, the desire for people to have their specific needs catered to rather than just being one of the masses. With advances in technology and communication, people have come to expect the quality between products to be comparable. It used to be that there were noticeable differences in quality between brands and people could distinguish themselves simply by the brand that they choose. With that field leveled, consumers are looking towards customized products to offer that level of distinction that used to be offered by quality alone.

How Parmasters is on trend:

What could be more customized or more cater to the ego than one-on-one training?

2. Cashing Out

High level executives and mid-level managers are becoming disillusioned with corporate life.  They are looking for alternatives to all of the stress and responsibility of running huge corporations.  They want to simplify and focus more on what they love – and they are willing to give up some of their earning power to do it.  They are “cashing out”.

How Parmasters is on trend:

The great news with the Parmasters franchise opportunity is that they can cash out of the corporate rat race without having to give up their income level.  There are opportunities for Regional Franchisors and Area Developers to earn executive level incomes and for individual Franchisees to earn a healthy income while working in an area related to their passion for golf. Golf every day? Absolutely!

3. Down-Aging

This trend refers to the over 50 market who are increasingly more affluent and in better health than this market ever has been.  They are looking for a return to simpler and more playful times.  They respond to the concept of the business as a center for community and are looking for pursuits to occupy them in their recreational time.  The market is responding with more and more golf courses.  Senior Golf on television is more popular than ever, and more and more seniors play the sport.  Our research shows that total recreational expenditures have grown at 13.2% per year compounded annual growth rate since 1985.

How Parmasters is on trend:

Parmasters capitalizes on this trend by providing a training system that is guaranteed to make learning to golf more fun than ever as well as giving them guaranteed results.  As the USP states, if they aren’t already, Boomers are going to have "better golf, more fun, guaranteed" when they experience the Parmasters training system.  The layout of the training centers will also facilitate customers using it as a community meeting place.

4. Vigilante Consumer

Consumers are demanding quality customer service and they want a fair deal.

How Parmasters is on trend:

Parmasters ethical franchise system delivers franchise support, service and fairness in a way that’s “Sixty Minutes – proof”.  True support, true buying power, and a genuine win/win.

5. Fantasy Adventure

The stresses of the modern world that gave birth to the “cocooning” trend that Popcorn spoke of in The Popcorn Report are now shifting towards a different type of escapism – Fantasy Adventure!  This is a trend towards experiencing the exhilaration of a true adventure, with less risk (such as the IMAX theatre experience) or having a chance to live out your fantasies.

How Parmasters is on trend:

Every golfer dreams of being the next “Tiger Woods”, of that elusive hole-in-one, of the perfect game at Pebble Beach, or of owning their own golf course.

With Parmasters, all of these things are brought within reach of  “mere mortals” so that any golfer that follows the program or any business person who applies the business systems will be able to live out their fantasies for a fraction of the cost and the effort that it would cost them otherwise, with guaranteed results.  And Parmasters virtual golf allows golfers to experience playing twelve of the top courses in the world for less than it takes to rent a cart on one of the actual courses!

6. Small Indulgences

“Because I’m worth it” states a famous commercial for women’s hair color.  This is the theme of small indulgences.  Gourmet cookies, five dollar pints of gourmet ice cream, luxury import supermarkets, and gala movie theatres are just a sampling of the products that are capitalizing on this trend.  People want to be able to treat themselves without having to spend huge amounts of money.  They look for the little ways to reward themselves for working so hard all week long.

How Parmasters is on trend:

Parmasters offers its customers the chance to have the same quality result that would cost up to three times as much if they were to hire a golf pro as their own personal coach.  One-on-one training becomes an affordable small indulgence that they can’t afford to miss out on.

7. Being Alive

Individuals everywhere are shifting away from the focus on material success and delayed gratification to an emphasis on having a better quality of life.  This trend further supports the strength of the growth in the personal and professional development field. More specifically, it points to a growth in increased recreational activities.  Our health is about a better life, not just about running ten miles.

How Parmasters is on trend:

…And what is better than playing golf everyday?
